The Remains of Burning express a journey of pain and self discovery – with suffering portrayed as the conduit to growth and freedom. Grief and acceptance are progressively weaved into concepts of burning, ashes, nature and seasons. Pain and suffering are considered from different angles – the experience, purpose, and eventual benefits. The guise of opportunity is noted – and the power of pause. Other themes include potential, love and courage. Reflections convey an insightful demeanor and gentle tone, with tender advice and the occasional plea. The reader can sense the poet’s gratitude for the vectors of pain that invoke self discovery, and her wistful wish for past guidance – conveyed with compassion and progressive self responsibility.
